we are markus and miriam. or miriam and markus. we’re the significant others, a music duo based in madrid, frankfurt and miami. we make our own music and perform exactly what we like. no compromises there.
between us (mostly markus) we play about half a dozen instruments, explore soundscapes and try to have as much fun as possible. it actually takes some talent – some might say even a lot – to make things work when there are only two members in your band. but that is exactly how playing with your significant other is like.

dr. markus schmidt is a musican, sound artist and ethnomusicologist from germany. he’s the musical director and main arranger of the significant others and a major musical figure in his own right. he plays sitar, guitar, an array of synthesizers and percussion instruments and is an outstanding teacher and retreat leader. learn more about him here: https://music-sound-silence.com/
miriam
i mostly sing and play some instruments more or less succesfully, but it doesn’t matter because singing is very cool. i’ve sung in spanish, english, french, finnish and even arabic. i’ve been – and maybe still am – a dancer and a writer, so be sure that i spend the day getting up to any sort of artistic trouble.
